Studio Policies

  1. Tuition is due on the first lesson of the month. Method books, supplementary materials and festival entrance fees are not included in the cost of tuition. Contact me for tuition rates.

  2. If the student must miss a lesson due to illness, family trip or emergency, or school activity (including band, orchestra or chorus rehearsal or performance; field trip; award ceremony; extracurricular sport event) the lesson may be rescheduled if there is an opening that week or if someone is willing to swap lesson times. Please give 48 hours notice when requesting a rescheduled lesson. Makeup lessons via FaceTime may be arranged.

  3. Lessons missed without prior notification, as well as lessons missed due to insufficient practice or books left at home, will not be rescheduled or made up. There is no reduction in tuition for missed lessons, except in the event of extended illness or teacher absence.
  4. Participation in recitals is encouraged, but not required. As skill in reading music and technical facility develop, students are given the opportunity to participate in evaluation festivals and competitions.
  5. Students must have access to a digital or an acoustic piano. Keyboards are acceptable for beginners.
  6. Daily practice is vital to the success of piano study. Parents are asked to keep the practice time free from distraction and interruption so that focus and concentration can be maintained. Beginners should practice 15-20 minutes a day, and as the student advances, practice time should increase in proportion to the difficulty of the repertoire.
  7. Acoustic pianos should be tuned at least once a year, and all keys and pedals should be working properly. I recommend the following piano tuner/technicians:
